Fixing “Off the Hook” Phone Issues with an Auto Hang Up Device and teleCalm
How caregivers can restore incoming calls when a senior’s phone isn’t fully hung up
Some seniors may occasionally forget to fully hang up the phone. This can happen if the handset is not set all the way back into the base, or if the “End” or “Off” button on a cordless phone is not pressed at the end of a call. When this occurs, the phone remains “off the hook” and cannot receive incoming calls.
The teleCalm adapter cannot force the phone to hang up, because hanging up is controlled by the telephone hardware itself. Restarting or rebooting the teleCalm adapter will not resolve this issue.
If this happens frequently, we recommend using an Auto Hang Up device that can automatically disconnect calls after a set period of time.
You can purchase one from:
Install the Auto Hang Up device between the teleCalm adapter and the telephone.
-
Connect a phone cord from the teleCalm adapter to the LINE jack on the Auto Hang Up device.
-
Connect the telephone to the TEL jack on the Auto Hang Up device.
-
Follow the setup and usage instructions that come with the Auto Hang Up device.
